James Hiltz was sent to Colorado Mental Health Institute after he was found not guilty following his sister’s death. 

Recently on November 3, Kentucky Fried Homicide released a podcast where Kris Calvert and Heather Sunseri discussed the unsolved case of Candace Hiltz homicide. 

The investigation has been ongoing to date. The incident took place in 2006 and there is no hearing or verdict to date. It was said that the investigators who were responsible for carrying out the investigation did not do their job properly intentionally, thus; denying justice for the family.

What Happened To James Hiltz?

James Hiltz was taken to Colorado Mental Health Institute after the court did not find him guilty of murdering his sister. There is no news about him at present. 

His sister, Candace Hiltz is described as a person who could not tolerate any injustice. She was also accepted in Standford Law School. She was 17 years old when she died. 

However, her older brother suffered from extreme paranoia around other people. It was described as a phobia that affected interaction with his family as well. He used to live in the woods behind his family house to avoid any kind of interaction with people, his own family as well.

Despite his less interaction with his family, Candace was overprotective of her brother and did not use to like whoever talked bad about him. One day, Fremont County Sheriff’s Deputy Robert Dodd arrived at their home looking for James. 

He was searching for him to question regarding a trespassing incident. He was talking to his mother regarding the matter. However, Candace did not like the way he talked to her mother and said things about her brother.

Thus, she decided to step in and started shouting at the officer. As a result, he threatened to arrest her to which she bravely held her wrist up. She also threatened him that she had seen him accepting envelopes from drug dealers and she would make other sheriff’s deputies aware of his actions. 

Candace Hiltz Rumored To Be Killed By Her Brother James Hiltz

James Hiltz was arrested as he was suspected of murdering his sister, Candace Hiltz. Candace was found dead at her home by her mother. She was shot multiple times with three different guns. 

The shots on her head were so severe that it was near to impossible to identify her. Following her death, her missing dog was also found tied up in a tree and butchered with an axe. 

The police who was called to the crime scene left behind many crucial evidence and the family of the victim claimed that the crime scene was not protected properly and it was easier for others to come and contaminate the evidence.

Moreover, the police also started to question the family about James after he went missing following his sister’s death. His mother told the officers about this mental condition and said that he had no history of violence.

Nevertheless, the investigators neglected the answer and went on to catch James Hiltz. He was found after three days of the incident taking place and was charged with first and second-degree murder and trespassing although the case investigation was ongoing. 

However, he was found not guilty by reason of insanity and sent to the mental hospital. 

Candace Hiltz Murder Update

Candace Hiltz murder has not taken any new direction. However, Robert Dodd, the deputy who was threatened by Candice has been charged with her murder although the investigation is still on. 

Rick Ratzlaff who was at an auction of storage units managed to buy a unit for $50.00 in 2016. The unit had some police lights, old police uniforms and some case files in it.

He also discovered an Axe, Blood-stained rope and a pair of bloody socks. They were all sealed in separate plastic bags which were in a manilla envelope labelled evidence which later turned out to be key evidence of Candace murder. 

That evidence gave new hope to Candace’s family but they are still waiting for justice to be served.
