Butch Goring retired from the NHL in 1985. He played for the Boston Bruins for half a season before retiring and became the team’s head coach for a season and a half after being released by the Islanders.

After being sacked as the Bruins’ coach in 1987, he temporarily played for the American Hockey League’s Nova Scotia Oilers before retiring for good.

He currently works for MSG Network as a color commentator for the Islanders.

While he was a player, a source provided a fun fact that he had a reputation for having the league’s worst fashion sense.
