John W. Bullock served in WWII, after graduating from Birmingham’s Fairfield High School at age 18. He took part in the Normandy landing and served in Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He was awarded the Bronze Star for heroic achievement.

After the war, John W. Bullock served as a civilian contractor to the military. He worked with the Army Materiel Command before becoming a contractor for The Pentagon. He retired from the Pentagon and became a vocal coach. He was a happily married man.

John W. Bullock was married to Helga Mathilde (née Meyer; 1942–2000), an opera singer and voice teacher from Germany.
