How to turn off comments on your Facebook posts so no one can add new comments
- You can turn off comments on a Facebook post by clicking or tapping the three dots in the top-right corner of that post.
- To turn off comments, the Facebook post's visibility needs to be set to "Public."
- You can also archive any post, which will turn off comments and remove it from your Facebook feed.
Facebook is built around sharing moments from your life and letting others comment on them. But if you've got a lot of friends or followers, those comments can become overwhelming.
That's why Facebook lets you customize who can comment on your posts, and even lets you turn off comments altogether.
How to turn off comments on a Facebook post
You can turn off comments using both the Facebook website and mobile app.
Just note that to change who can comment on a post, that post's visibility needs to be "Public." If it's set to "Private" or "Friends," you can't turn off comments.
1. Open Facebook and head to the post that you want to turn comments off for.
2. Click or tap the three dots in the top-right corner of the post.
3. Select the Who can comment on this post? option.
4. You'll have a few options to choose from. To turn off comments, select Profiles and Pages you mention.
This will make it so no one can comment unless you've directly @ mentioned them in the post — if you haven't mentioned anyone, no one can comment. This does mean though that if you have mentioned someone, they'll still be able to comment. There isn't any way to stop them from commenting without editing the post or removing it.
Also remember that this won't delete any comments. All the existing comments will stay, and anyone viewing the post can still read them. You'll have to delete the comments individually if you want to hide them.
If you don't want anyone to comment or see the post, you can delete it or archive it. Archiving a post fully turns off the comments, hides it from your profile, and prevents others from viewing it. But if you want, you can still find it by heading to your profile's private Archive.
