Panettiere was born and raised in Palisades, New York. She was born to Lesley R. Vogel (former soap opera actress) and Alan Lee “Skip” Panettiere (a captain in the Fire Department of New York City). Hayden attended South Orangetown Middle School in New York.

At the age of just eleven months, Hayden appeared in commercials beginning with an advertisement for a Playskool toy train. From 1994 to 1997, Panettiere landed a role as Sarah Roberts on the soap opera “One Life to Live”. Her next role was as Lizzie Spaulding on the soap opera Guiding Light in 1996.

Apart from acting, Panettiere was also very prolific when it comes to music. She was nominated for a Grammy Award in 1999.
