Florence Delorez Griffith Joyner (December 21, 1959 – September 21, 1998), better known as Flo-Jo, was an American track and field athlete who competed in the 1960s and 1970s. A major reason why she is regarded as the fastest woman of all time is because the world records she established in 1988 for both the 100 m and 200 m distances are still in place and have not been seriously challenged since. She was 38 when she died in her sleep as a consequence of an epileptic episode in 1998, when she was 38 years old. She received her education at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
