Wendell Williams Jr. was born on February 6, 1990, in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Williams attended Jack Britt High School in Fayetteville, North Carolina where he played for his high school basketball team. During his senior season, he averaged 15.7 points and 7.0 rebounds.

After completing high school, Wendell Williams Jr. enrolled at North Carolina State University and played for the North Carolina State Wolfpack. He ended the senior season of his college basketball with an average of 10.6 points, 38 rebounds, and 1.8 assists.

C.J. Williams was undrafted in the 2012 NBA draft which led him to join ETHA Engomis of the Cypriot League on July 24, 2012. After spending one season with the team averaging 13.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.9 assists in 29 games, Williams signed with the Los Angeles D-Fenders of the NBA Development League on November 1, 2013.

Williams spent the 2013-14 season with the D-Fenders and joined the Milwaukee Bucks for the 2014 NBA Summer League. Following the end of the summer league with the Bucks, Williams signed with the Giorgio Tesi Group Pistoia of the Italian Serie A on August 11, 2014.

C.J. Williams played for the JDA Dijon Basket of the French League and Texas Legend of the NBA Development League for the 2015-16 and the 2016-17 season. After his time at both the team, he signed with the Los Angeles Clippers on September 27, 2017.

His contract was promoted to a two-way contract on October 14, 2015, which resulted in him splitting time between the Clippers and their G League Affiliate, the Agua Caliente Clippers. He was awarded the 2018 NBA G League's Jason Collier Sportsmanship Award.
